6. St. Louis Rams (WASH): Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
The Rams traded down with the Redskins for Blackmon. An article recently said the Rams don’t have offensive line as a high priority early in the draft so Riley Reiff is out the door. Sam Bradford needs weapons and Blackmon is the best one in the draft.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Melvin Ingram, DE, S Carolina
I still believe there is a very good chance someone trades up to this pick (notably Kansas City) to draft Ryan Tannehill. However, for this mock I’ll keep the Jags staying put. This pick ultimately will come down to Michael Floyd and Ingram. While the Jaguars should take Floyd to help Blaine Gabbert, Jacksonville rarely does what they should which is why I have them taking Ingram.
8. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
If Tannehill makes it this far the Dolphins will sprint to the podium to lock this pick in. The Dolphins have been screwed over on every off-season play they have made the past two years. They absolutely need a quarterback because while Matt Moore is an average quarterback, he doesn’t have the skills to lead the Dolphins anywhere past the first round of the playoffs (see: Chad Pennington). Tannehill’s college coach is the new Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman. He knows best how to handle Tannehill.
9. Carolina Panthers: Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State
If you watched the Panthers offense last season, you would have thought that they were a good football team. However, their defense really let them down. A good part of that reason is because of the youth and inexperience along the defensive line. Cox is the BPA here and is very versatile along the defensive line. While I don’t like this pick (it shows the Panthers giving up on the two defensive tackles they drafted in the third round last year, Sione Fua and Terrell McClain), it is likely to happen.
10. Buffalo Bills: Stephon Gilmore, CB, S Carolina
Ok, I admit it: I’m jumping on the bandwagon early here.
Bills head coach Chan Gailey was at the pre-Draft luncheon. While there, he talked up this year’s cornerback class. Gilmore has been skyrocketing on draft boards over the last couple of weeks and is peaking at the right time. Gailey likes his prospects from the southeast and Gilmore played at South Carolina in the SEC. this pick makes a lot of sense and definitely stirs the draft up.
