6. St. Louis Rams vs WASH: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St
This is the absolute perfect scenario for the Rams. Trading out of the #2 slot netted them picks up the wazoo in the future. Taking the new prime target for Sam Bradford has got to be the top priority now. Blackmon is the perfect do it all receiver. He can go deep, over the middle, run every route in the book and his size, strength is ideal for a guaranteed 1200 yards/yr for the next 10 years. This is a cant miss fit. Rams better be praying nightly this is how the 2012 Draft plays out.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
I fully believe the Jags will go against the grain on this. And rightfully so. As many of us draftniks know, pass rushers from UNC haven’t exactly worked out for the NFL recently and I think Quinton Coples is the latest one. This fact, combined with their in house depth at DE and another even more glaring fact, that the Jags haven’t picked a first rounder who turned out to be more than average in a decade, should justify this selection. Poe is large, fast, has a quick first step and plays a position where judging overall impact isn’t felt for many years out. They have to go the safe route and take a player that it will be very tough for them to screw up.
8. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
The need is clear. The fit is obvious, with former A&M coach Mike Sherman being the Fins new OC. Its just that this could wind up being Christian Ponder 2.0, a QB who is taken way ahead of where he really should be, only because the team fears the player wont be around by the time they next pick. The logic is flawless, the pick is silly. Matt Moore is probably just as good throwing to Davone Bess and Brian Hartline. But this is what the Dolphins will do. It just is.
9. Carolina Panthers: Melvin Ingram, DE/LB, S. Carolina
The Carolina offense is one name for the next 15 years. Cameron Jerrell Newton. Selecting offense in the first round is a complete mistake for the Panthers at this point. This pick is guaranteed to be a defensive player and Ingram is a great fit. The Panthers need a Von Miller-type to rush the passer and replace the effect Julius Peppers had. The injuries the LB corp of the Panthers has had over the years should justify this pick on depth reasons alone.
10. Buffalo Bills: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
Having spent a ton of money during free agency on defense, it’s time for the Bills to address its porous offensive line. Injuries and complete ineffectiveness make selecting Reiff a must. They don’t even currently have a starting right tackle on the roster. This is probably the biggest lock selection of this draft outside of Luck and RG3. Maybe they’ll get real wacky and trade up for Kalil. My beef with the Minnesota pick will haunt me through this mock draft.
