2014 NFL Mock Draft Round 2
Round 2 | 44-54:
44) St. Louis Rams – Dion Bailey S, USC 6′ 201 lbs.
The Rams need big help at FS so HC Fisher goes to his alma mater to snag Bailey who played w/ last years 3rd round pick T.J. McDonald for 3 years. Had 63 tackles & 5 int’s in 2013. Can play FS or SS but will probably end up on the back end. This looks like a good tandem to be roaming the secondary for the Rams for the next several years.
45) Detroit Lions – Weston Richburg C, Colorado St. 6’3" 298 lbs.
The Lions are desperate for a quality C. Richburg has gathered a nice following of scouts who like his talents as we lead up to draft. 3 year starter at Fort Collins.
46) Pittsburgh Steelers – Allen Robinson WR, Penn St. 6’2" 220 lbs.
Robinson had 108 recep, over 1300 yds & 8 td’s in 2013. Big Ben gets his big receiver. Has separation speed & good hands. Nice size & runs solid routes. Great local pick for Steelers.
47) Dallas Cowboys – Dee Ford OLB, Auburn 6’2" 244 lbs.
This would be a great pick for the Boys if he slides this far. Played DE @ Auburn but would have to gain at least 20 lbs. Is also to small for a 3/4 stand up pass rusher. My sources are telling me he won’t go in 1st round. His best fit is for a 4/3 OLB/edge rusher. Was one the true stars of the Senior Bowl practices & game. Could go earlier.
48) Baltimore Ravens – Jordan Matthews WR, Vanderbilt 6’3" 212 lbs.
Had a tremendous career at Vanderbilt. Had 112 recep in 2013, over 1300 yds for 2nd year in a row & 12 td’s in 2013. All time leading receiver in SEC history. Has nice speed, smooth moves, good size, runs exact routes & isn’t afraid to go over the middle.
49) New York Jets – Austin Seferain – Jenkins TE, Washington 6’6" 262 lbs.
The Jets need a new TE for QB Smith so he has more offensive weapons. XLNT blocker on line & down field. Makes acrobatic catches. Didn’t have as good a year in 2013 as 2012 for stats because the Huskies stayed on the ground all year w/ Sankey. I don’t know why this player is a stud. Good athlete, played basketball for the Huskies also & I hear he can jump out of the building so he can go up & get balls uncontested.
50) Miami Dolphins – Tre Mason RB, Auburn 5’9" 207 lbs.
Had outstanding year in 2013. Has strong legs for his size & can break tackles. Ran behind Greg Robinson all year to BCS Championship game. Needs to work on receiving. The Dolphins are looking for some new legs in backfield w/ Lamar Miller not playing up to hype. Has enough speed to break off long runs.
51) Chicago Bears – Keith McGill CB, Utah 6’3" 211 lbs.
McGill has been really shooting up draft boards since Senior Bowl & combine. 2 year starter for Utes. Has the size which is the rage in NFL for CB’s now. The Bears continue to reload their secondary. Can play man cover or zone. Good hitter which the Bears like.
52) Arizona Cardinals – Zach Mettenberger QB, LSU 6’5" 229 lbs.
The Cards HC Arians decides to grab his QB for the future. Carson Palmer is 35 years old. ZM is similar in size to Palmer & is a pocket passer w/ a cannon attached to his right shoulder which is what they need for Arians vertical pass offense. Not very mobile & needs a good OL which the Cards need to work on.
53) Green Bay Packers – Trent Murphy OLB/DE, Stanford 6’5" 252 lbs.
GM Ted Thompson has been watching Murphy all year & will move to the podium quickly if he’s available here. Would be great across from Clay Matthews in Pack’s D scheme. Had incredible stats in 2013. 62 tackles, nation leading 15 sacks, 23.5 TFL, 6 passes batted, 2 FF & 1 int returned for td. Relentless when in pursuit of QB.
54) Philadelphia Eagles – Kyle Van Noy OLB, BYU 6’3" 243 lbs.
The Eagles could use an OLB that can get to QB quickly. Had 61 tackles, 16 TFL, 4 sacks, 7 passes batted & 2 int’s one a pick-six in 2013. Also very good in pass coverage & XLNT blitz LB.
