Jason’s 2012 NFL Mock Draft | 11-20

11.       Kansas City Chiefs: Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

The Brockers situation reminds me a bit of when Albert Haynesworth came out.  They are about the same size and if they hit on their potential, they could be monsters.  I am not comparing their abilities to mentally cut it in the NFL, just that Haynesworth was not a proven player and his teammate John Henderson went earlier as more of a proven commodity.  Getting some size on the D-line and lining Brockers up at the 3 will immediately sure up a rush defense that was 26th against the run.

12.       Seattle Seahawks: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

Seattle has needs on the defensive side of the ball, especially at pass rushing end.  The hot name right now is Chandler Jones and he could get a look if available, but in the end they go with Kuechly who has a very high floor, especially at #12.

13.       Arizona Cardinals: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Fitzgerald gets his wish here, a #2 WR that can actually tilt coverage away from him.  Floyd and Fitzgerald will team to be absolute demons in the red zone.  Floyd does come with some baggage but if he can remain a good citizen, this will end up being a great pick.  If the Cardinals are going to hang their hats on Kolb, it’s best to get him a target with a big catching radius and Floyd certainly has that.

14.       Dallas Cowboys: Mark Barron, S, Alabama

Recent rumors have Barron sneaking up into the top 10 and there’s a chance he could but 14 is about right for the best safety in the draft.  Barron will certainly be a terror in the box but unlike Roy Williams, they won’t have to hide him in coverage.  Dallas was awful against the pass and just gave up too many big plays.  In a division that should put up points, Barron is the perfect addition in Big D.

15.       Philadelphia Eagles: Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, S Carolina

Ingram can be lined up at OLB on early downs, then can move up on the line on passing downs.  He is one of the most versatile defenders in the draft and even after signing Ryans, adding Ingram is a great pick.  If Floyd is still here, adding a big target for Vick would be a possibility but in this mock, he’s off the board.  15 is a bit lower than a lot of mocks have Ingram going but he might be more of a versatile player than a dominating player at one position.

16.       New York Jets: Cordy Glenn, G/T, Georgia

If Rex truly wants to get back to the ground and pound offense (and with Sanchez as QB, they really need to) a road grader like Glenn is a great start.  Glenn could play RT or either guard position and could eventually move over to LT but with Ferguson there, it’s not necessary.  He is more agile version of Leonard Davis or Phil Loadholt.  He’s an absolute mauler at the point of attack and really had a great post season.  I know the Jets would like to add to the defensive side of the ball but Glenn fits perfectly here.

17.       Cincinnati Bengals (VIA OAK): Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

Gilmore is another guy that is moving up boards and at 17, the Bengals would sprint to the podium.  Gilmore is an asset in coverage and against the run.  He did it all during his career at South Carolina.  He played WR, ran back kicks and even played some QB.  Great pick here for the Bengals.  A WR opposite Green will get some attention but you can’t pass on Gilmore at #17.

18.       San Diego Chargers: David DeCastro, G, Stanford

Another good value pick here.  The Chargers need help at multiple positions but this is definitely a value pick.  Guards don’t typically go higher than the 20’s but DeCastro is a Hutchinson-like talent.  I’m not ready to put him in the top 10 but the Chargers would certainly be happy to keep DeCastro in California.

19.       Chicago Bears: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

The Bears are going to be facing two very potent offenses for the next number of years in Green Bay and Detroit.  Along with being good in coverage, both zone and man, he is a very sure tackler with good size.  The Bears could look at Glenn if my Jets pick is wrong as offensive line has obviously been a nightmare for Chicago.  Kirkpatrick also gets mentioned transitioning to safety which the Bears could look at down the line.

20.       Tennessee Titans: Quinton Coples, DE, UNC

Opinions are all over the board on Coples but at #20, he’s a great value pick and can offer some pass rush for a team that only managed to get 28 of them last year.  The guy has all of the talent in the world and you saw him absolutely abuse Mike Adams on multiple occasions in the Sr. Bowl.  He’s got great size and if you can get his motor up, he could dominate and be a candidate for Defensive ROY.
