2013 NFL Mock Draft by Evan| Picks 9-16
9. Oakland Raiders f/ New York Jets – Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
The Oakland Raiders trade down 6 picks but still get there man who may be a top 5 prospect. Like I said earlier the Raiders have a lot of needs and a pass rusher is a good start to place. Werner stepped up when his Florida State defence went down with injuries, so he will fit right in with this Raiders defence which hasn’t got very many playmakers.
10. Tennessee Titans – Chance Warmack, G, Alabama
The Titans need to try and help protect first round pick in 2011, Jake Locker. So they draft the best interior lineman in the draft. Guards don’t usually go this high but Warmack has the potential to be a pro bowl player in his first year and many years after. One of the most impressive things about him is his deceptive speed, so don’t be surprised if his stock rises after the combine.
11. Cleveland Browns f/Sand Diego – Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
The Browns need to upgrade a couple of defensive positions and they might be able to make that step towards a playoff team. So they draft an athletic freak who has not played football for very long but has elite upside which will make the Browns fall in love with him. With many comparisons to JPP, he may not be that good but is a boom or bust prospect. He once again will have his stock rise after he shows off his athleticism at the combine.
12. Miami Dolphins – Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
The Dolphins have a solid team but they need to find a pass rusher to partner with Cameron Wake to make a disruptive force. So they take Jordan who has tremendous upside but hasn’t been amazing with the Oregon Ducks. He recently had an injury but that will be ignored by the Dolphins and is the next DE drafted in a very deep class.
13.Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Jonathan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
The Bucs added Mark Barron in the draft last year so they keep adding to the secondary which has lost Aqib Talib and may lose Ronde Barber and Eric Wright in the off-season. Banks is a fantastic CB who is going to be part of what could be a Bucs secondary to fear in the future.
14. Carolina Panthers – Jonathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
The Panthers have been horrible at stopping the run this year and have no defensive tackles that can stop the run. So they add the massive Hankins who won’t add much in the pass rush department but will help stop the run by filling up the middle and freeing up space for the likes of Luke Kuechly and Jon Beason.
15. New Orleans Saints – Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU
The Saints are changing to a 3-4 defence so they need a pass rusher who can regularly get to the QB and give that secondary some help. They add Mingo who is another pass rusher who has a lot of upside but was a little bit underwhelming at LSU this year. He might also need to add some weight to succeed at the next level.
16. St Louis Rams – Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
The Rams have two picks in the first round this year, so they add the best safety in the draft that will help add to one of the better defensive backfields in the league. Vaccaro has elite skills against the run that will help make the run defence better and is good against the pass but if he gets a bit better in pass coverage he could be a Troy Polamalu type player.
