My name is Emmanuel, I go by Eman. I am that NFL-junkie that can’t stop talking about football, 24/7 365. I am a Redskins fan, so I have learned to love the offseason more than the regular season. Which is where I get my fascination for the NFL draft, and the events leading up to it. I enjoy watching/scouting players. If you want to contact me, Twitter is best. @EmanTweetz
2012 NFL Mock Draft Updated on 02/06/2012
1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB-Stanford
>> This selection was made long before the Colts ended their 2011 season. Stanford QB Andrew Luck, will go #1 overall. The Stanford Junior is by far the most polished QB in the 2012 draft. The Indianapolis Colts finished with a record of 2-14, because their star QB Peyton Mannning was out all year. As I am typing this up, Peyton Manning is still a Colt, but the writing is on the wall, he will be released sometime before he is due that $28 million bonus in March. Jim Irsay, Colts owner, has terminated Head Coach Jim Caldwell, and the Polians. Things are changing in Indianapolis, whether Peyton likes it or not. I would be shocked if the Colts went a different route here.
2. St. Louis Rams: Matt Kalil, OT-USC
>> Once again we find the St. Louis Rams with a top 5 pick. The 2011 Rams were more deserving of the top pick in my honest opinion, the Rams need it. They finished 2-14 like the Indianapolis Colts. The St. Louis Rams are under new coaching personnel. Coach Spagnolu is out, and Coach Jeff Fisher is in; Saints Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams also in to coach the defense. Now, many people have the Washington Redskins trading up to the Rams #2 spot, but I am not one of them. I have the Rams selecting left tackle Matt Kalil. One obvious reason: they desperately need a left tackle to help keep Sam Bradford upright. The other reason, Kalil will be gone by #6, if they decide to trade with Washington. Matt Kalil is a safe pick, and looks to be a franchise left tackle. Easy pick.
3. **** TRADE The Washington Redskins trade their 2012 1st and their 2013 1st for the Minnesota Vikings #3 overall pick****
Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
>> The Washington Redskins make the first splash of the 2012 NFL Draft. Mike Shanahan moves his team up 3 spots to acquire Heisman trophy winner RG3. The Redskins are not a quarterback away, but they desperately need a new QB in DC. Mike Shanahan is entering into his 3rd season as head coach, with very little results, when it comes to wins. His first season, Mike went with McNabb, and we all know how that went, then Mike went with John Beck & Rex Grossman, which felt like a never-ending nightmare for Redskins fans. Robert Griffin III is one hell of a football player; he could be that franchise QB Washington never had. Mike has said in the past, he loves good-character guys, and RG3 is #1 on my list in that category. HTTR.
4. Cleveland Browns: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
>> Mike Holmgren is loaded with picks in the 2012 NFL Draft; he’ll use his first, first round pick on a huge play-maker. Justin Blackmon. The OSU Cowboy is regarded as the best receiver in the 2012 NFL Draft; he had 121 receptions in 2011 for 1,522 yards, which is less than 200 yds from what he had a year ago. I think Trent Richardson is a possibility at #4 here, but Mike will go with the sure-bet top 5 talent receiver. It’s like Christmas all over again for QB Colt McCoy.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
>> Morris Claiborne can go ahead and get a pirate tattoo now, because he will definitely be a Buccaneer in April. Besides the Andrew Luck #1 pick, this is the other pick everybody seems to agree on, and rightfully so. It makes for a perfect fit. Ronde Barber is great, but is definitely not getting any younger. The other CB Aqib Talib is another incident away from a full year suspension. Morris Claiborne is the best CB coming out, and could be a dominant shutdown corner in the next level.
