CJ’s 2012 NFL Mock Draft Round 1 Picks 22-32
22. Cleveland Browns: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
– I debated slotting Doug Martin at this pick but Riley Reiff offers way too much value to pass up. Joe Thomas and Reiff could become the best offensive tackles duos in the NFL.
23. Detroit Lions: Nick Perry, DE, USC
-The Lions always seem to go best player available, at least in recent memory. It looks like Detroit could lose Cliff Avril but that wouldn’t be the only reason for drafting Nick Perry. Kyle Vanden Bosch is aging and they have no depth at the position.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Donta Hightower, LB, Alabama
– Donta Hightower has been slotted here in almost every mock draft since the draft order was set. He is a perfect fit for their defense and would be a centerpiece on defense for years to come.
25. Bengals Via DEN: Doug Martin, RB, Boise State
– Doug Martin is the most likeable prospect in the draft. He reminds me of Jonathan Stewart and having that type of player to pair with Andy Dalton, A.J. Green, Jermaine Gresham and Kendall Wright on offense would be scary for opposing defenses.
26. Philadelphia Eagles via HOU: Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
– Philadelphia has shown major interest in Dontari Poe but taking him at 15 would be a reach. The Eagles have two 2nd round picks and could package them to move back into the 1st round to get Poe.
27. New England Patriots (Saints): Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse
– New England needs to take a pass rusher with one of their first round picks. Chandler Jones would arguably be the best player available and he just so happens to be a pass rusher.
28. Green Bay Packers: Michael Brockers, DT, LSU
– I wanted to slot Michael Brockers earlier than this but the lack of need for a DT, especially a 5-tech in a 3-4 isn’t that high. The Packers could be getting the steal of the first round.
29. Chargers Via BAL: Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama
– San Diego needs a pass rusher opposite Shaun Phillips as Larry English is a bust. Upshaw is an elite run stuffing OLB and should put up 7 to 9 sacks per year.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Amini Silatolu, G/T, Midwestern St
– This may seem a bit high for Amini Silatolu, but he completely dominated competition at the senior bowl and at Midwestern State. Think a 6’4 version of Flozell Adams.
31. New England Patriots: Josh Robinson, CB, UCF
-I’m sure the Patriots will try to trade down with this pick but I don’t see any potential trade partners if the draft falls this way. Mike Mayock stated after the combine that it wouldn’t surprise him at all if Josh Robinson went in the first round and I agree.
32. New York Giants: LaVonte David, LB, Nebraska
– The Giants always seem to go with the best player available and Lavonte David is that guy in my opinion. He is the best cover LB in the draft and would start at WLB day one. He reminds me of former Buccaneers LB, Derrick Brooks.
