2008 NFL Mock Draft Round 2 cont…:04/23/08

48. Atlanta Falcons: Eddie Royal, WR, VT

Atlanta gets another second round pick here.  They go with a WR to help Brian Brohm, one of their other second round picks, develop.  Royal has good size and speed and can be a good receiver at the next level.

49. Philadelphia Eagles: Terrell Thomas, CB, USC

The Eagles did just pick up Asante Samuel but Terrell Thomas is a great player that is big enough to play any secondary position.  They could also go LB or DE with this pick but Thomas is first round talent that has fallen to them in the mid to late 2nd round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

50. Arizona Cardinals: Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas

The Cardinals have the Edge who performed very very well last year.  The Cardinals need someone to split time with the Edge so he doesn’t get injured or run out of gas.  Jamaal Charles is a big RB that has GREAT speed.  He can break open a big run any time he touches the ball and complements the Edge very well.  Charles will get some touches right away in the 2011 NFL Mock Draft season.

51. Washington Redskins: Cliff Avril, DE, Purdue

The Redskins got their WR in the first round so they go with their next biggest need here. I think that Cliff Avril is a great NFL prospect and will be able to play right away in the 2011 season. Avril is a LB/DE so he will be able to put pressure on the QB as a great athlete as well.

52. Tampa Bay Bucs: Duane Brown, OT, VT

Duane Brown is jumping up 2011 NFL Mock Draft charts. Look for him to go in the second round. The Bucs need a linemen to help their backfield and protect their QB. Look for Brown to get some immediate playing time in the 2011 season.

53. Pittsburgh Steelers: Justin King, CB, Penn St.

Big Ben wants a big receiver but I don’t see any other big receivers that have the talent to go here.  Justin King can come into a very good Steelers team and use his athleticism to help with returns and in the secondary.

54. Tennessee Titans: Calais Campbell, DE, Miami

The Titans lost a couple DE’s in the 2011 NFL offseason.  Calais Campbell was first round talent until he didn’t perform well in the 2011 NFL Combine.  Look for the Titans to love this 6’8" end if he falls to them. Another pick here would be a Corner or a LB to help secure the secondary and the middle of the field in 2011 NFL Mock Draft.

55. Seattle Seahawks: Dustin Keller, TE, Purdue

Matt Hasselback needs a mismatch player for 2011.  Dustin Keller is a great mismatch player to out muscle safeties and beat LB’s deep.  Keller would make the Seahawks very very dangerous in the 2011 Season.

56. Green Bay Packers: Xavier Adibi, OLB, VT

The Green Bay Packers could always use a good LB.  Xavier Adibi is both a fast LB as well as a big enough guy to not get thrown around. He played for a fairly good team in college and was one of the anchors on this VT team.

57. Miami Dolphins: Chad Henne, QB, Michigan

The Dolphins get to this pick in the second round and are very excited that Chad Henne is still available. Ever since Michigan’s bowl game his stock has been rising.  Look for Henne to most likely go earlier in this round because his stock is still rising in the 2011 NFL Draft.  Don’t look for him to come in and start immediately but work his way into a starting QB 2 or 3 years down the road.

58. Jacksonville Jaguars: Josh Barrett, S, Ar State

Barrett is  one of the best Safeties in the 2011 NFL Mock Draft. Jacksonville is a very good team and they are just trying to boost their team up because they are in a division that had 3 teams make the playoffs last year.

59. Indianapolis Colts: Jordy Nelson, WR, K State

The Colts don’t really need a WR here but he is a great WR and a big target. Look for the Colts to look in other places but if this talent is here they may have to take him as a 4th WR. This is kind of a stretch but I think he is to good to far past this slot in the 2011 NFL Draft.

60. Green Bay Packers: Martellus Bennett, TE, Texas A&M

The Packers lost their starting QB and they don’t really have a TE on the team.  Martellus Bennett is a good big TE that can help with both the run and the pass game. Look for Bennett to be a great impact player in 2011 and give Aaron Rodgers a release valve when he is in trouble.

61. Dallas Cowboys: Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa

I don’t have the Cowboys taking a CB in the first round because of the Pacman Jones talk. Look for them to get a CB in the second round in case Pacman gets into trouble or they just want to improve the weakest part of their team.

62. New England Patriots: Curtis Lofton, LB, OU

The Patriots passed a LB in the first round and now they know why.  Curtis Lofton is a great player with early second round talent.  He can come in and prosper in the Patriots scheme while learning under some very good (old) veterans.  The 2011 NFL mOCK Draft should help the Patriots once again be very very good in the 2011 Mock Draft Season.

63. New York Giants: Pat Sims, DT, Auburn

I know this isn’t going to be a popular pick but I love Pat Sims.  Sims is a great DT and fits well with the Giants schemes.  Sims is a fast DT that can put pressure on the QB as well as stop the run.  Pat Sims will help the G-MEN in the 2011 NFL Mock Draft season if they opt to pick him.
