11. Buffalo Bills: Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan St.
I Previously had Malcolm Kelly going here but he performed very bad at his pro day. So I moved up Devin Thomas who is both fast as well as a red zone threat. If Thomas goes here he will be a very good complement to Lee Evans in the 2008 NFL Season. Thomas is now considered to be the best receiver in the 2008 NFL Draft. I could also see the Bills taking a corner here if one of the top tier corners falls to them in the 2008 NFL Draft.
12. Denver Broncos: Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St.
The Broncos need help in a few different areas for 2008. I think that first of all with the injury problems they are having and the Brandon Marshall incident they may look to go with a WR. However, I don’t think there is a WR worthy of going this high and it isn’t that big of a need for them. So the Broncos look to help their run game and protect their QB by getting an OT. Ryan Clady is a big man that was very good in his years with Boise St.. Some 2008 NFL Mock Draft’s actually have him going 5th overall to the Chiefs because he is so good. I have them dropping to the Broncos and I think they will be very happy about getting him.
13. Carolina Panthers: Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
I have heard that the Panthers are in love with Harvey as well as a lot of other people in the 2008 NFL Draft. Look for the Panthers to take him here if he isn’t snagged before this slot or someone jumps up in front of them. In 2008 Harvey could be a great edge rusher putting pressure on the QB and making a great impact. He is considered to be right behind Chris Long and Vernon Gholston talent wise.
14. Chicago Bears: Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
The Bears like many other teams have a lot of different options with this pick. First of all even though they resigned Rex Grossman they don’t have a proven starter for the 2008 season so they could get a QB. Secondly, they need someone to protect their QB and help with the run game so they could get an OT lack Jeff Otah (who I think is overrated). I have the Bears taking Rashard Mendenhall the big, fast and strong RB out of Illinois. They still have Cedric Benson but he hasn’t been successful with them in the past few years. Mendenhall could come in and share time with Benson to try and get the Bears running game going to open up the passing game. Side Note: Mike Mayock on NFL.com has Rashard Mendenhall rated as the top RB in the 2008 NFL Draft ahead of Darren McFadden.
15. Detroit Lions: Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
Some people are saying that the because of Toe Surgery Jonathan Stewart is going to fall out of the first round. I don’t think he can fall out with the combination of size, speed and vision on the field. The Lions recently released Kevin Jones their previous starter in the past few years. Jonathan Stewart will be able to play in 2008 even though he is having his surgery and will be a big impact. Stewart is a hard runner and other than this surgery he is a very durable player (unlike Kevin Jones).
16. Arizona Cardinals: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Ten. St.
The Cardinals have a strong offense for the 2008 season. This NFL Draft is going to be very important for them to build their team all over. They have done pretty well in the past few years in drafting Matt Leinart and getting the magnificent receivers that they currently have. Another choice here would be a RB for someone to share time with and learn under the Edge. The best RB’s are off the board so the Cardinals go with Cromartie a great CB out of with tons of upside. He has fallen this far because he goes to a small school and he didn’t have the challenges in colleges other corner did.
17. Kansas City Chiefs: Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt
The Chiefs helped improve their Defensive Line with the first pick. They now go on to address the Offensive Line. Jeff Otah is considered to be one of the best Tackles in this 2008 NFL Draft. The one negative about him as that he might not be fast enough to play the Left Tackle position in the pros. So look for him to come in and get some playing time on the right or left side of the line.
18. Houston Texans: Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
The Texans look for a RB that can move the ball on the ground. When the top tier RB’s are gone they look at the top players available. Aqib Talib is a great CB and should be a great CB in the NFL. He is fast and big making him able to cover the best receivers in the NFL. Aqib Talib could end up being the best receiver because of his rare size and speed. Look him to be worked into the rotation in the 2008 season.
19. Philadelphia Eagles: Desean Jackson, WR, Cal
The Eagles were a very streaky team in 2007 and they are going to look to change this in 2008. They already added Asante Samuel to help with their secondary issues. So I have them giving Mcnabb another offensive weapon for the long hall. Desean Jackson is a good receiver because of his speed and return ability for the pros. Jackson may not be one of the eagles top three WR’s in 2008 but he will get on the field and make an impact in 2008.
20. Tampa Bay Bucs: Mike Jenkins, CB, S. Florida
The Buccaneers need to get younger in a lot of place. Barber was talking trash in the 2007 playoffs and then got burnt over and over. So the Buccaneers opt to go with a young talented CB for the 2008 season. Jenkins may not start right away in the 2008 season but he will definitely get some time on Nickel and Dime. Another choice here could be my prior pick Limas Sweed or another WR. The 2008 NFL Draft will be interesting to see which way the Bucs will go.
