- Andrew Luck • 6-4 • 234 • Stanford
Luck is considered to be the most polished pro ready Quarterback to come out of college since before Peyton Manning. He has very good size for a starting Quarterback at the NFL level with sneaky athleticism. People expected him to be more like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning with athleticism but with his combine workouts he matched the athleticism of Cam Newton from a year ago. I see Andrew Luck being the first overall pick but at most falling to the 2nd pick. With all of this being said I do not necessarily think Luck will outperform Robert Griffin III in his rookie season if he is on the Colts. The reason being is that the Colts have a lot of rebuilding to do and Luck RGIII may end up on a better team : Top 2 - Robert Griffin III (JR) • 6-2 • 223 • Baylor
Griffin or RGIII is considered by a lot of people to just be a very good athlete who can throw a good deep ball. With that being said he is an extraordinary athlete but he also is a very good QB. Unlike when Michael Vick was coming out of college RGIII sits in the pocket and goes through his options with the last resort being to run and use his speed and agility. I see someone trading up to get Robert Griffin III with the 2nd overall pick. If this doesn’t happen I do not see him falling any lower than the Cleveland Browns with the 4th overall pick. Projection: Top 4 - Ryan Tannehill • 6-4 • 221 • Texas A&M
Tannehill was converted from a Wide Receiver to play Quarterback for Texas A&M. Due to this he is an athletic QB that can make plays with his legs. The negatives for Tannehill are he doesn’t have great arm strength and he hasn’t played the QB position for long. I think that if he is taken in the top 10 as some analysts have suggested that he may be put in a position to fail. I think he has the skill set to be a good QB but he is going to need time to develop. I think that a team trading back into the late first round or the Cleveland Browns at pick 22 may be the best bet for Tannehill. Projection: 1st Round - Brandon Weeden • 6-4 • 221 • Oklahoma State
Weeden’s biggest disadvantage coming into the NFL Draft is his age as he will be 29 years old when the NFL Season starts. With that being said another question is will he be able to transition to a typical NFL offense when he is coming from more of a spread scheme. I believe that if he was 21 years old he would be rated ahead of Ryan Tannehill and be a 1st round pick in the NFL Draft. However, he is not so I see him either going really late in round 1 or in the 2nd round to a team like Seattle or Miami. Projection: Late 1st to Early 2nd round - Brock Osweiler (JR) • 6-6 • 242 • Arizona State
Osweiler is the biggest of the top Quarterbacks in this NFL Draft. With that being said he does not always use his height to his advantage because of an awkward throwing motion that he has where he drops his arm (somewhat similar to Philip Rivers). Due to this throwing style and the offense he played in people believe he has a weak arm which is not the case. Additionally I think that Osweiler is a bit raw and hasn’t had a lot of time to read defenses and play at the QB position. However, he decided to enter the NFL a year early and with that being said I think he has the size and athleticism to be a starting QB if someone takes the time and energy to develop him. At this point I think you have to draft him more for his upside rather than what he has to offer at this time. Projection: Mid 2nd – Early 3rd - Kirk Cousins • 6-3 • 214 • Michigan State
Cousins is good in every aspect of the game while he doesn’t excel in any particular aspect as well. I think at this point he may be a little more polished of a Quarterback thank Osweiler but he doesn’t have the upside that Osweiler does. He has a pretty good arm and gets the ball out of his hand timely and pretty accurately. He has shown to be good on short and intermediate routes but he is not great with the deep ball and struggles at times when he is on the move. Altogether I think he will be a strong back up in the NFL and may push for a starting position at some point due to injury or lack of a good starter ahead of him. He . Projection: Mid 2nd– Early 3rd - Nick Foles • 6-5 • 243 • Arizona
Foles has prototypical size and arm strength to be a good NFL Quarterback. However, just looking the part with a big arm doesn’t necessarily make you a good NFL QB. I think that in the correct system Foles could be a potential starter but he is going to need to work on a couple of things. First off he is not a great athlete and does not throw well on the move for the most part. Additionally he tends to lock onto one receiver and not go through his progressions like an NFL starting QB would need to do. Projection: Late 2nd – Mid 3rd - B.J. Coleman • 6-3 • 233 • UT-Chattanooga
Coleman played at a lesser school than most of the other top Quarterbacks and therefore it is a little more difficult to project his talents. With that being said he has good arm strength and good size. He has pretty good overall mechanics and moves pretty well in the pocket. I think that like a lot of other mid round prospects and Quarterbacks with the right training and time to learn the NFL Scheme he could be a good career backup. Additionally unlike some of the other QB’s on this list I think that he has the ability to also be a potential NFL Starter. Projection: 3rd-5th Round - Russell Wilson • 5-10 • 204 • Wisconsin
Wilson’s biggest thing working against him is his height. He doesn’t have the size to stand in the pocket and throw over big NFL Offensive lines and big defensive lines. I know people are going to bring up the Drew Brees comparisons…but he isn’t even as tall as Drew Brees. With that being said I think he will be drafted and I think that he has the work ethic and skill set to be in the NFL for an extended period of time. I would compare his skill set to that of Seneca Wallace where he is very athletic and moves fluidly but probably won’t ever make it as a starter in the NFL. Wilson’s arm strength is average to below average and he makes most of his plays outside of the pocket because he is so short. I believe he will probably fall to the mid rounds because of this. Projection: 3rd -5th Round
- Ryan Lindley • 6-4 • 229 • San Diego State
Lindley has the prototypical size and arm strength to be a good NFL Quarterback similar to that of Nick Foles. With that being said he seems to be very inconsistent with the touch on his passes, his throwing motion and his footwork. Altogether he is going to be a project for whatever team takes him and most likely will be a career backup. With all of this being said I believe he is a late round prospect in the NFL Draft. Projection: Top 5th-7th Round
