17. Minnesota Vikings: Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
The Vikings Defense has been very good this year and has been able to help win them a lot of games. Their offensive line has been spectacular at times and we all know that Adrian Peterson is amazing as well. I would like the Vikings to either go with a Receiver or a QB in this pick to help their offense in 2008. However, late in the 2007 year they struggled to get pressure on the QB. They could take the next top rated 2008 nfl Draft Prospect QB such as Joe Flacco or Brian Brohm but they may be available in the second round. So instead I have them taking Harvey who is a great pass rusher with great speed as well. He is one of the best pass rushing DE in the 2008 nfl Draft.
18. Houston Texans: Antoine Cason, CB
The Texans would love for either one of the top RB to fall to them in the 2008 NFL Draft. However, in this case they are both taking so far. They could go with Felix Jones but they decide to address the defensive side of the ball in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Texans get a very smart CB in Antoine Cason. They will most likely address RB in one of the later rounds of the 2008 NFL Draft.
19. Philadelphia Eagles: Desean Jackson, WR, California
The Eagles didn’t do a poor job at run blocking this year and they did a very good job blocking for screens. Probably one of the most pressing needs for the Eagles in 2008 is protecting their QB from being sacked multiple times in the same game. However, I think one of the biggest problems with getting sacked was the inability for the receivers to get open in 2007 for Mcnabb. So with this pick in my 2008 nfl Mock Draft I give the Eagles a KR and a WR that can make plays and take some of the pressure off of Brian Westbrook. Other pressing needs here are DE such as Derrick Harvey and also OT such as Chris Williams or Jeff Otah if they were available.
20. Tampa Bay Bucs: Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
The Bucs Need a receiver so they go with their top rated receiver in this slot. They wish Desean Jackson would have fallen to them but they don’t get him so they get the next top rated WR in the 2008 nfl Draft Malcolm Kelly the Oklahoma receiver who was the top rated receiver in the 2008 NFL draft until news of bad knees came about. The Bucs could also go for a QB in this situation because their QB’s are old and Garcia would be a great player to learn under in 2008. There receivers however are older so they go with Malcolm Kelly in the 2008 nfl Draft and they hope he is productive for them and helps them in the 2008 season. Their defensive backs are also another concern so look for them to go with that approach also if there is a good prospect still available here.
21. Washington Redskins: Philip Merling, DE, Clemson
The Redskins need someone that can help put pressure on the QB and help stop the run so they go with the big elusive Merling out of Clemson. Philip Merling is a good pass rusher and could actually go in the top 10 in the 2008 nfl Draft. However, because of team needs I have him falling all the way to 21 in my 2008 nfl Mock Draft and the Redskins are ecstatic about the situation. A lot of other people have Calais Campbell going here who is a very good player out of Miami but has dropped ever since the 2008 nfl Draft combine. The only problem is Campbell ran slow in the 2008 nfl Combine so he may not be looked at as a pass rusher but more of a run stopping D-End. The Redskins could be very successful in 2008 if they can snag a couple of play makers and keep their players healthy.
22. Dallas Cowboys: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
There is a lot of talk about Jerry Jones trading up and trying to get McFadden. I think that is a bad move and is going to cost them to much when they have a proven RB in Marion Barber. Felix Jones McFadden’s backup was very good in 2007 and ran a good 40-yard dash at the 2008 nfl Combine. Another Idea here would be to either get the best CB available or a WR to help the aging receivers in Dallas and take a RB in the second round. Chris Johnson out of East Carolina is a speedy RB like what Dallas is looking for and they could most likely pick him and his 4.24 speed up in the second round. It sounds like Jones wants to win the Super Bowl in 2008 so look for him to make some drastic moves in the 2008 Draft and off-season.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt
The Steelers need someone to step in and play right away in 2008. Jeff Otah would not have to go very far if the Steelers decided to draft him in the 2008 nfl Draft. The Steelers are most likely going to go with O-Line the question is will they go with the best Tackle available or will they go with Branden Albert the Guard out of Virginia. Albert is the top Guard in the 2008 nfl Draft so look for them to either take the best tackle or Albert in this situation. I am really excited to see the Steelers in 2008 because they have all the potential in the world on both offense and defense. The key to their success is going to be the 2008 nfl Draft and improving their interior players.
24. Tennessee Titans: James Hardy, WR, Indiana
The Titans need to give Vince Young some targets for 2008 if they want to go anywhere. The receivers he has now are a joke so they need to upgrade. The best receiver for their scheme available is James Hardy because he is both tall and fast. He also was very impressive at the 2008 nfl Combine running an unofficial 4.46. This pretty much makes him a first round pick in the 2008 nfl Draft other than his off field issues. The one problem here is that the Titans have had off field problems in the past with Pacman Jones so they might decide to go with another receiver in this situation depending on who is still available. The key for the Titans in 2008 is their draft because they need to give Vince weapons to do well.
25. Seattle Seahawks: Branden Albert, G, Virginia
The Seahawks struggled with both their offense and defense in the offseason. They just recently signed Julius Jones to be the RB of 2008 for them. So the Seahawks address the O-Line needs and get the best Guard in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Seahawks struggled to run the ball all year so they get Albert to help the run in 2008 and get them farther in the 2008 off season.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars: Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
The Jaguars have a couple of options here. I have previously had them taking a receiver because their receivers are almost as bad as the Titans. However, they cannot pass up Quentin Groves in this sport because he is ranked as a top 15 player and he dropped this far. Groves is both speedy and known for his run stopping ability and slight pressure on QB’s. The Jags were very impressive in 2007 and are looking to be successful again in 2008 so they have to pick wisely in the draft. I am not sure if this is the best pick for them in the 2008 nfl Draft but most of the top tier receivers are off the board. A choice here could be Mario Manningham but he is a speedy guy that had an awful workout at the combine so he is dropping in my book.
27. San Diego Chargers: Kentwan Balmer, DT, UNC
The Chargers are a very good Offensive team as well as defense. They need someone to come in and fill the Middle of the field. Kentwan Balmer is considered to be a very good Defensive Tackle. He is one of the top rated DT’s in the 2008 NFL Draft. Look for some other teams to consider him higher in the draft as well. The Chargers should be successful in 2008 just like they were in 2007.
28. Dallas Cowboys: Brandon Flowers, CB, Va Tech
The Cowboys finally address their most pressing need with this pick. The Cowboys need to improve their secondary greatly for the 2008 season though because they have struggled in stopping the passing game against good teams. If Jones really wants to win the Super Bowl in 2008 he will draft some good Defensive backs in the 2008 nfl Draft. This is the most pressing need but if they go with a DB with the first pick in the 2008 nfl Draft they could use this pick for either a receiver or a RB.
29. San Francisco 49ers: Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
The San Francisco 49ers are looking to improve their team for the 2008 nfl season. They would love it if James Hardy or one of the other top tier receivers fell this far but they aren’t that lucky. Instead they get a great D-End who they can’t pass on. One of their most pressing needs is WR but if they find a DE that can help their defense immediately they have to take him in the 2008 nfl Draft. Jackson has fallen this far because he is of great talent and in a previous draft he could have gone in the top 20.
30. Green Bay Packers: Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
The Packers had a very good season in 2007 and hope to improve upon it in 2008. Aqib Talib has dropped in some drafts and jumped in others. The Packers need to address their DB squad and get younger. So even though Talib was one of the slower 40 yard dashes at the 2008 nfl Draft Combine and his 2008 nfl Pro Day (4.4’s). Talib has shown in lat 2007 and early 2008 that he is a great DB and has the skills to be a first round pick in the 2008 nfl Draft.
31. New York Giants: Dan Connor, LB, Penn St.
The Giants D-Line is very strong and they showed that in the super bowl. The Giants defensive is great as well as their offense. So in this spot I have them taking a beast at the LB position to help support the run game. They could look for secondary here but most of the good Corners are off the board. Another viable option here would be Kenny Philips the safety out of Miami. But in the 2008 NFL Draft I see them taking a linebacker especially if Connor falls to them.
