1. Miami Dolphins
Jake Long-OT-Michigan
The Dolphins don’t really have a legit QB but they drafted John Beck last year and they have Cleo Lemon that can start until Beck is ready. They have a great running back in Ronnie Brown even though he was recently injured. This is going to be a tough choice between Dorsey and Long but in the end they choose to improve the O-Line to protect the blind side of their future QB and address the defense and WR with the rest of the picks.
2. St. Louis Rams
Glenn Dorsey-DT-LSU
St. Louis has already addressed the defensive linemen especially interior last year with Adam Carriker (converted from DE). Dorsey is considered by some to be the best overall player in college football and the Rams don’t have any other needs greater than this. So this is a value pick and maybe if they get Dorsey then Carriker can lose some weight and move back to DE to compliment Leonard Little. 3. New York Jets
Calais Campbell is only going to be a junior out of Miami but he is a physical specimen. He is 6′8″ and 280 lbs and had 20 tackles for a lost and 10.5 sacks last year and was named first team All-ACC. If Pennington keeps on being so mediocre and not winning games which is why they would be picking here they may want to address QB. The best QB as of now in college looks like it is Matt Ryan out of Boston College. So look for Matt Ryan, Brian Brohm, or Andre Woodson to be taking by the Jets also.
4. Atlanta Falcons
Both Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwich are not temporary solutions and the Falcons need to find a QB to build their team around. They have a lot of needs such as receiver, O-Line, and Defense. Petrino is having problems with some of the players on the team especially Hall so look for them to make a lot of personnel changes in the off-season.
5. Minnesota Vikings
Andre Woodson-QB-Kentucky
Woodson is now getting the recognition that I thought he would. He beat LSU and people are now giving him more respect. He has a good frame for the NFL and has a very strong arm as well that is needed in the pass happy NFL. Woodson will then team up with Peterson and have two young studs to build the team around and Tavaris Jackson can be the long term backup that he should be.
6. New England Patriots(from 49ers)
Dan Connor-ILB-Penn State
The New England Patriots have shown that if you give Tom Brady a few offensive weapons he is amazing. The defense has been very good this year as well but that is what they address with this pick. Dan Connor is supposed to be the real deal and better then his teammate Paul Posluzney who is now on the Buffalo Bills. Dan Connor will be a perfect player for the Patriots because he is a smart player that is a hard hitter. The inside linebackers of the Patriots including Vrabel, Seau, and Bruschi are old so the Patriots go with Connor who will make an immediate impact.
7. Oakland Raiders
Sam Baker-OT-USC
Baker is a big offensive lineman that will come in and start right away for this Oakland team. McFadden is still on the board at this point and the Raiders could look at him but in the end they need someone to block for Jordan rather then get another guy to run the ball. Another important need for the Raiders is WR so look for them to address that in the first couple rounds as well. But when it comes down to it they get someone to block for Jordan and protect Russell’s blind side. 8. Buffalo Bills
Malcolm Kelly-WR-Oklahoma
In this situation the Bills give Trent Edwards their new starter a big receiver to throw to on the goal line. I was on my way back to school the other day listening to the game and they were talking about the Bills Goal line offense. The commentators were saying that the Bills only goal line offense is to run the ball because they have short receivers and no legitimate TE. So the Bills change that by drafting the speedy 6’4” junior receiver out of Oklahoma. He is both a deep threat as well as a red zone threat that will help take the pressure off of Evans. I really am not sure about receivers this year because there are so many different receivers who seem to be good but don’t differentiate themselves from others.
9. Cincinnati Bengals
Kenny Phillips-S-Miami
Well let me think their offense is very good and is able to score a lot of points; and they still have Chris Henry, a very solid receiver, coming back in a few weeks. The Bengals then draft a defensive player to help them from losing games by giving up HUGE numbers. Kenny Phillips is a real time playmaker and he will make a real big impact right away. Phillips can help with the pass and run because of his physical abilities and athleticism.
10. New Orleans Saints
Darren McFadden-RB-Arizona
I am not sure that McFadden will fall this far because of his athletic ability and versatility. But none of the previous teams have a big need for RB and the Saints don’t necessarily have a big need either. I think that the Saints should either look to trade down with this pick maybe to Dallas or choose McFadden. If they take McFadden the McAlister will be traded away and the Saints will have the youngest most athletic backfield. Another route the Saints could take would be take defensive players.
11. Philadelphia Eagles
Gosder Cherilus-OT-Boston College
William Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan are getting old and will be retiring soon so the Eagles need to address the offensive line problem. John Beck is the future of the Eagles and without someone protecting his blind side he will not be as productive as Eagles fans will want him to be. College is looking to be the real deal this year. They are ranked 2 overall and Matt Ryan is considered the best QB in college right now.William Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan are getting old and will be retiring soon so the Eagles need to address the offensive line problem.John Beck is the future of the Eagles and without someone protecting his blind side he will not be as productive as Eagles fans will want him to be.College is looking to be the real deal this year. They are ranked 2 overall and Matt Ryan is considered the best QB in college right now.William Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan are getting old and will be retiring soon so the Eagles need to address the offensive line problem.John Beck is the future of the Eagles and without someone protecting his blind side he will not be as productive as Eagles fans will want him to be.
12. Houston Texans
Jonathan Stewart*-RB-
The Texans seem to like big backs such as Ron Dayne and Ahman Green. Neither of these players are the answer for the Texans future RB needs and Jonathan Stewart is showing to be a very good big RB. This way Stewart can learn from Green and take time to become the future back in Houston. Another good selection here would be receiver because without Andre Johnson the team falls apart, meaning they need another good receiver. By selecting a primetime receiver here they protect themselves from injury while taking pressure off of Johnson and helping better develop Jacoby Jones as well. 13. Dallas Cowboys(from Browns)
Early Doucet-WR-LSU
The Cowboys are a really good team and it looks like they are going to be successful this year under the helm of Tony Romo. This year Witten has been the main receiver followed by TO (who has a lot of drops). TO is old and the defense is going to have to start keying
14. Arizona Cardinals
Ray Rice*-RB-Rutgers
The Edge is having a good year but he is getting old and is taking to many hits to continue being the sole feature back. James is a very good RB and is strong in the red zone and Rice is a speedy powerful back when he needs to be. The thing is Rice is still a junior and may not decide to leave this year. People are also skeptical about Rice because he has such a small frame but at first he will share time with Edge anyway so this will be a very powerful 1-2 punch. Also to improve the defense another good value pick here would be Chris Long-DE.
15. Chicago Bears
Brian Brohm-QB-Louisville
The Bears are struggling with a couple of things this year and for the most part they are on the offensive side of the ball. They had a good win last week with Brian Griese going on a length of the field drive in order to win the game. However, Griese is not a long term fix so the Bears address that problem here with the fundamental pocket passer Brian Brohm. The Bears are also having trouble this year getting good yardage on the ground. So if they don’t like the QB left on the board then look for them to take an offensive lineman such as Tony Hills out of Texas.
Frank Okam-DT-Texas
This is a tough situation because Travis Henry is most likely going to have a year suspension due to substance abuse. So RB is a concern but the Broncos have Selvin Young and if they need to they can address it with their later picks. Frank Okam is a very big DT that will be able to help the Broncos stop the run, which is something they have been struggling with this year.
17. Tampa Bay Bucccaneers
Chris Long-DE-Virginia
Chris Long of Virginia is Howie Longs son and is said to be one of the top Defensive Ends in the country. Long has both the frame and physical abilities to be a top 10 pick but I just don’t see any of them going for a D-End. So Tampa sacrifices their need for an elite receiver and goes with Long because he is the best player still on the board.
18. Seattle Seahawks
Desean Jackson-WR-California
The Seattle Seahawks are a good team but don’t really have many playmakers, Desean Jackson is just that. This is a really tough pick because picking a RB here would also fulfill a much needed slot to share time with Shaun Alexander. If they choose a receiver here then I assume they will try and get a RB in the second round to play with Shaun Alexander and try to give him some breaks to make him more productive.
19. Baltimore Ravens
Justin King*-CB-Penn State
PennState Justin King is a very good athlete out of Penn State where he returns kicks and is able to play both ways. The reason that King has dropped so far on my chart is that because James Hardy the tall Indiana WR lit him up for over 100-yds and 2 Td’s. King is still the best CB in the draft if he decides to go and Samari Rolle isn’t getting any younger. Another good pick here would be a QB or a WR because the Ravens struggle in both of these positions. 20. Kansas City Chiefs
Tony Hills-OT-Texas
Well it looks like Brodie Croyle is the QB of the future so KC improves the Offensive Line here. The Chiefs select Tony Hills to help LJ get some bigger wholes and get more yards per carry. He has had some tough games this year and a good offensive lineman will be a big help to the run and passing game in KC. Tony Hills the 6′6″ offensive line will be a good choice for the chiefs in this position. Hills to help LJ get some bigger wholes and get more yards per carry. He has had some tough games this year and a good offensive lineman will be a big help to the run and passing game in KC.
21. Carolina Panthers
Derrick Dockery-DE-Florida
If the Panthers were looking for a down defensive end then this pick would definitely try to get Chris Long. However, the Panthers need someone to help replace the oft injured Dan Morgan. So the Panthers draft Dockery who is athletic enough to play OLB and then Jon Beason can replace Morgan and Dockery can take Beasons spot.
22. Detroit Lions
Antoine Cason-CB-Arizona
The Lions need help with their defense. The Lions have been known to pick receivers in the past but they will let Calvin and Roy carry the load for a while. Caston will be able to come in and help the defense become more productive in stopping the passing game that has killed the lions in the past.
23. Washington Redskins
Steve Slaton-RB-West
Clinton Portis is a very good RB because of his athletic ability and his aggressive mentality. The problem with this is that Portis is taking a lot of carries and beating himself up in the process. Portis never seems to be healthy from week to week and Ladell Betts isn’t anything to write home about. So the Redskins pick up the speedy agile Steve Slaton who can compliment both Portis and Betts by catching balls out of the backfield as well as running the ball. He is often compared to Reggie Bush because of his freakish athleticism.
24. San Diego Chargers
Sedrick Ellis-DT-USC
The Chargers have two offensive threats in Gonzo and Tomlinson but they have none at receiver. They chose the LSU grad Craig Davis last year and traded for Chambers. So they will have to address WR in the later rounds because Sedrick Ellis is too good to pass up in this situation. Their offense is going to score points they just have to keep containing the opponent.
25. Tennessee Titans
Limas Sweed-WR-Texas
If they choose Limas Sweed this year that would be three Texas players in the first round in three years. They need a big time receiver and right now they have none. Limas will bring a big body that is fast enough to get behind defenders as well as be a big goal line target. A couple of other choices here could be Adarius Bowman or my new favorite James Hardy. Hardy is a 6’7” receiver out of
26. Jacksonville Jags
James Hardy-WR-Indiana University
I don’t know if this guy has the talent to go in the first round but he is my new favorite player. Hardy is the ultimate red zone threat because he is 6’7” tall. He recently dominated Justin King and also broke the TD record and Indiana. The Jags offense struggles through the air so this possession goal line receiver will give Garrard a big target to throw to.
27. Pittsburgh Steelers
James Laurinaitis-ILB-Ohio State
The Steelers are looking really good this year but have had defensive break downs at times. Holmes is turning into a promising receiver and they still have Hines Ward and the RB position is taken care of. Farrior is getting older and is going down the path of retirement. Laurinaitis is the real deal and is used to playing for elite teams.
28. Green Bay Packers
Aqib Talib-CB-Kansas
The Packers pass offense is looking pretty good this year, especially the pass. The Packers have the QB situation taken care of with Favre and Rodgers as well as a talented young receiver core. The question is whether or not the Packers are going to give up on their young Running Backs Wynn and Jackson or if they will take a RB. I like the Packers taking Mike Hart in this situation because he is used to carrying the rush offense on his back. But I think they wait to address the RB and improve their defense here.
29. New York Giants
Adarius Bowman-WR-Oklahoma State
The New York Giants looked like they were going to have a long year after the first couple games until they stepped it up on defense. Their defensive line has been the key to their defense and their offense is playing very well. The Giants decide to upgrade their receivers with Bowman the 6’4” receiver out of OU State to compliment Burress and replace Well Dressed Amani Toomer.
30. Dallas Cowboys
Dejaun Tribble-CB-Boston College
I don’t know about you but after every game they play I am thinking hmmm…… secondary. They have already addressed the offense with their earlier pick so here they take the best corner/safety on the board. In this situation that happens to be the CB from Boston College Dejuan Tribble. Another player to get picked here could be one of many Running Backs still left on the board. Mike Hart is still left on the board so maybe the Boys would go with him to replace Jones in the two headed offense. But the safe pick is two address their weak secondary.
31. San Francisco 49ers (Colts)
Mario Manningham*-WR-MI
Mario Manningham is a big play junior receiver from Michigan. This year he has put up pretty good with 6 Td’s and 650 yards. Manningham is more of a big time speedy receiver then a red zone threat. Alex Smith has a group of average receivers as of now so the 49ers pick up Manningham to improve their pass game which in turn will open up the run game for Gore.
32. New England Patriots
The New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts is being called good vs. evil. Let’s just say the Pats are not good.
