Austin’s 2012 NFL Mock Draft | 6-10

6.      St. Louis Rams Via WASH: Justin Blackmon, WR, Ok State

This pick will finally give Sam Bradford a number one receiver to throw to. After adding Steve Smith in free agency, an addition of Blackmon would make this receiver squad drastically better than last years.

7.       Jacksonville Jaguars: Quinton Coples, DE, UNC

The Jaguars could use a pass rusher on their defensive line  and could add Coples to their vastly improved defense. Coples is a top-5 talent, and adding him could push the Jaguars defense to become an elite unit.

8.       Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

It appears that Tannehill is a lock for being picked in the top ten. There is discussion of the Vikings shopping their pick, likely for teams interested in traded up for Tannehill. I believe Tannehill can be a solid quarterback, but don’t believe he’s worth a top ten pick, let alone number three overall. He has only started 16 games at quarterback in his career, which is an extremely small sample size for a top ten pick. However, Joe Philbin appears to be a big fan of his, and the Dolphins could use a quarterback, because David Garrard and Matt Moore are not the future for the Dolphins.

9.       Carolina Panthers: Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

Cam Newton brought Panthers fans a glimmer of hope for the future. However, the Panthers defense left much to desire. Part of that was due to Jon Beason being lost for the season early on, and him returning next season will be a big boost. The Panthers could use a big body on the defensive line, and Michael Brockers could fill that role. Brockers appeared on the scene similarly to Nick Fairley, where there was not much talk of him prior to this season, but his draft stock has skyrocketed since then.

10.       Buffalo Bills: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

The Bills season was similar to the 2008-2009 season where the Bills jumped out to a 5-0 record but finished the season under .500. The Bills addressed a need on their defense in a big way by signing Mario Williams. That will allow the Bills to address a different position of need with the tenth overall pick. Stevie Johnson had a good year, but the Bills don’t have another go-to receiver. Michael Floyd has excellent length and is very quick for his size. The Bills would be a potent offense with the addition of Floyd to an offense already including Johnson, Fred Jackson, and CJ Spiller.
