2009 NFL Mock Draft Round 2 Picks 33-43

November 10th, 2008 · No Comments

 Round 1Round 3Round 4

33. Detroit Lions: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC

I have addressed the QB and Defensive end positions in the first round so now I am moving to a LB position.  Now they bring on Cushing to help with the outside in the 2009 season. I think Cushing could be a LB/DE player as well if needed by whoever drafts him in the 2009 NFL Draft.

34. Cincinnati Bengals: Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan

Once again the Bengals defense is struggling and they need someone to help them stop the run.  Taylor is a very big physical interior lineman that could help stop up the run.  Look for the Bengals to either address defensive line, secondary or take a Guard to pair up with the Tackle I had them taking in the first round.  I think this team is going to need a great line in order to be good in the 2009 season.

35. KC Chiefs: Brandon Spikes, ILB, FL

The Chiefs took Dorsey last year in the 2008 NFL Draft to plug up the middle.  So with this pick they take another middle man in Spikes who I believe is a little under rated. I think if he has a good work out at the 2009 NFL Combine he could easily jump into the first round.

36. San Francisco 49ers: Tim Tebow, QB, FL

Ok I know that Tebow probably wont fall this far….but if he does the 49ers will need to take him here.  I am scared of Tebow as a passer in the NFL but as far as athleticism he is a play maker and he could come in and mix things up for the 49ers.  They need a play maker and that is exactly what Tim Tebow is in the 2009 NFL Draft.

37. Oakland Raiders: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

I gave the Raiders a great play maker in the first round so they need to address a much more glaring need with this pick.  They need to make holes for McFadden and Fargas as well as protect Russell a lot better. So with this pick they get a solid OT that can come in and at least start at RT for the 2009 NFL Season.

38. Seattle Seahawks: Eben Britton, OT, Arizona

The Seahawks also need to help their O line to protect the now oft injured Matt Hasselback.  So I have them building the line with this pick to maybe may them a contender for the 2009 season.

39. St. Louis Rams: Myron Rolle, S, FSU

The Rams have looked good and bad at times but mostly the latter.  So I think they need to solidify their defense first and Myron Rolle will help due that immediately. Rolle is a great athlete that could start right away in the 2009 Season for the Rams.

40. Houston Texans: Darius Butler, CB, UConn

Everyone thought this was going to be the Texans breakout year but it hasn’t been thus far.  They have struggled and one of their weaknesses is the CB position thus far. So I think the Texans take Butler here to add depth to the CB position and the pass defense packages. I think the Texans are a player or two away from going to the playoffs in 2009.

41. NE Patriots (From San Diegeo): George Selvie, DE, USF

Depending on how Selvie finishes the 2008 season he could jump a lot from this position. But his weight being so low and him being injury prone could be two things that hold teams from pulling the trigger.  The Patriots could definitely use him as just a pass rusher after he puts a little more weight on. It will be interesting to see if he is still on the line or if he is converted into a stand up end or an outside LB.

42. Jacksonville Jaguars: Herman Johnson, G, LSU

The Jags have had a lot of problems with their line in the 2008 NFL Season so far which has hurt them immensely.  Their run game is probably the most important part of their game so if they aren’t solid up front they will not have success.  So with Johnson here they can help get some more meat up front to get MJD moving.

43. Cleveland Browns: Javon Ringer, RB, Michigan St.

The Browns don’t really have an understudy or someone that will be an eventual replacement.  Ringer I think has shown he is a top tier RB that could go in the first day of the NFL Draft. He is both fast, agile and powerful when he needs to be. If Jamal Lewis has 1 or 2 more years I think they will complement each other well and then Javon Ringer will be the eventual starter.
