Alistair’s 2012 NFL Mock Draft | 22-32

2012 NFL Mock Draft Picks 22-32 by Alistair

22.       Cleveland Browns: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

Martin could go as high as 12 to Seattle, so he’s a steal here. He would replace Oniel Cousins on the right side, and give McCoy added protection while he McCoy tries to prove he is the QBOTF.

23.       Detroit Lions: Stephon Gilmore, CB, S Carolina

With Eric Wright signing in Tampa this past off-season, Gilmore helps solidify a weak secondary. They’re a few pieces away from contending with the Packers for the NFC North. Gilmore brings them another piece closer.

24.       Pittsburgh Steelers: Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama

This has been the consensus pick since the Steelers went on a string of contract restructuring and cuts. Hightower brings some youth to an aging defense.

25.       Denver Broncos: Devon Still, DT, Penn State

After Broderick Bunkley signed with the Saints, there was a huge hole in a quickly improving defense. I’ve seen Stephen Hill or Lamar Miller mocked here recently, but they can get another good weapon for Peyton like Alshon Jeffery or Chris Polk in round 2.

26.       Houston Texans: Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC

The Texans won the AFC South for the first time last year. With Peyton out of the division for good, they need to bring back the pass rush they lost when Super Mario signed in Buffalo. Nick Perry is a one dimensional defender but it will bulk up an already great defense.

27.       New England Patriots: Shea McClellin, OLB, Boise State

If New England hopes to get back to the Super Bowl while competing with defenses like Baltimore and Denver’s, they must improve theirs.

28.       Green Bay Packers: Harrison Smith, S, Notre Dame

I originally mocked Smith here, and then changed it to McClellin, but with Nick Collins release, this pick will be Smith. I believe Smith will be a better pro then Mark Barron.
29. Baltimore Raves – Peter Konz, Center, Wisconsin.

29.      Baltimore Ravens: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

Konz, like Keulchy, could go much higher if not for his position. With Matt Birk not getting any younger, they get the next Jeff Saturday to anchor the line for the next decade.

30.     San Francisco 49ers: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

Harbaugh will be overjoyed that his boy drops this far. Fleener has displayed a Gronk-esque upside this season, and after his magnificent pro day, he only furthered his status as a first round prospect.

31.   New England Patriots: Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois

New England continues to improve their weak defense, capitalizing on both first’s. Andre Carter will not be back and Mercilius can replace that hole.

32.   New York Giants: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

Boise State’s Doug Martin has been picking up huge momentum recently, but just like Luck and Griffin, you got to go with the consensus best as opposed to a player picking up steam. With Jacobs gone and Bradshaw’s fumbling problems, they need another back.
