2013 NFL Draft Defensive End top 5 rankings

By Tyler Lurkins

  1. Barkevious Mingo, LSU-Unrivaled burst and quickness from the edge.  Has speed to make plays anywhere on the field.  Can chase down the play from behind.  Strength is sufficient and can stand up to an NFL lineman.  Needs more weight in a 43 scheme.  Should learn how to stand up the blocker and diagnose the play, rather than attack.  Comparison:  Jared Allen
  2. Bjourn Werner, Florida St.-A violent player with a hard motor.  Equally talented against the run and pass.  Physically and mentally capable of playing NFL football.  Comparison: Chris Long
  3. Sam Montgomery, LSU-Great off the edge.  Not as quick as other DE’s but has a true athleticism that makes up for mistakes.  Diagnoses plays well and is very fundamental.  Will need to add strength and weight for the NFL.  Comparison:  Cliff Avril
  4. Jackson Jeffcoat, Texas-Ferocious pass rusher.  Has long arms with compact, stout body.  NFL bloodline with great knowledge of the game.  Comparison:  John Abraham
  5. Corey Lemonier, Auburn-Blazing fast speed off the edge.  Hard to contain.  Hard for any tackle to get hands on.  Lacks a complete game.  Needs weight, strength, and a better overall knowledge of the game.  Comparison:  Aldon Smith
