2009 NFL Mock Draft – 12/28/08

Round 2Round 3Round 4Round 5

1. Detroit Lions: Sam Bradford, QB, OU

This is going to be a very tough pick any way you swing it.  Some people love Stafford as the top QB in the 2009 NFL Mock Draft because they say he is the most NFL Ready. Another pick people are saying a lot is the top OT in the draft be it Andre Smith or Michael Oher.  I like both of these other options but Sam Bradford has a ton of upside and he was a star at Oklahoma and could be the face of this franchise for years to come. Also for those of you that don’t think he is eligible for the draft he is because he has been in college football for three years meaning he is eligible for the 2009 NFL Mock Draft.

2. Cincinnati Bengals: Andre Smith, OT, Bama

I like the Bengals to take the top rated OT in the 2009 NFL Mock Draft. As of now it would be Andre Smith if he decides to go pro early in the 2009 NFL Mock Draft. Also another interesting pick here would be Michael Crabtree because Chad Johnson looks like he could be on his way out and Crabtree could be a great offensive weapon. However, I don’t think Crabtree is going to run a great 40 yard dash in the 2009 NFL Draft Combine. So I think the Bengals go with the big LT out of Bama with this pick.

3. KC Chiefs: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

The Chiefs have been pretty bad this year so they need to build their team from the inside out.  I like them to take a LT that can be there for years and help them with their running game. Also once again I think they could go with a top tier WR here to take some pressure off of Dwayne Bowe and help out the progressing QB. Also they could go QB here but I think they will wait until the 2nd or third round because there could be some good later draft picks.

4. St Louis Rams: Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

The Rams struggled this year to protect their QB as well as their rb Steven Jackson. Orlando Pace is on his way out and they need someone to take his place for the future. Also some people think they could go QB here and WR because they have struggled at those positions this year.

5. Seattle Seahawks: Taylor Mays, S, USC

The Seahawks could once again go one of many positions with this pick because they were so bad this year. The first thing that comes to mind is upgrading at the WR position for the 2009 season. However, I am not sure if they will have any WR rated this hi in the 2009 NFL Draft because once again I don’t think Crabtree will work out as well as some teams may expect. Also I think Taylor Mays is a special player and he will lead this defense with his play making abilities.

6. Oakland Raiders: Michael Crabtree, WR, TTU

DISCLAIMER: CRABTREE IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE 2009 NFL DRAFT HE IS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE MEANING HE IS CAN GO PRO.Though Crabtree won’t work out like Darren McFadden he is a great play maker.  Crabtree will be good for years to come because he is a big target with great hands.  I believe he is definitely the top WR in the 2009 NFL Draft and will boost this team while giving Russell a more reliable target.

7. San Francisco 49ers: Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia

This pick was tough for me because I know the 49ers are scared to take another QB after what happened to them with Alex Smith.  However, they need to get someone for the future and I don’t believe Shaun Hill is that solution.  They could also get a WR because their best WR’s are Isaac Bruce who is 40 and Bryant Johnson who isn’t a true number 1 WR.

8. San Diego Chargers: Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC

I Love Rey Maualuga as an ILB because he is just a beast.  He runs as well as most OLB and he has as much intensity and play making ability as any ILB in the Draft.  I think matching up Maualuga with Merriman would be a freakishly good defense.  This 2009 NFL Mock Draft has him going to the Raiders because he is a great ILB that is able to move from side to side.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars: Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St.

The Jaguars were supposed to content for their division this year and they fell flat on their face.  I think they have a lot of weapons they just weren’t using them properly in the 2008 season.  They could go WR here to give Garrard some more weapons.  But they struggled on defense this year as well so I think they take the best player available. Malcolm Jenkins is a great play maker that is the top CB in the 2009 NFL Draft. If Jenkins runs a good 40 in the 2009 NFL Combine I believe he could go as high as 5 in the NFL Mock Draft.

10. Cleveland Browns: Beanie Wells, RB, Ohio St.

The Cleveland Browns are another team this year that were supposed to be good and weren’t at all. I don’t necessarily think Beanie is the best RB in the 2009 NFL Draft but I think he fits the browns needs the best. They have some speed backs but Beanie Wells is a beast that can run hard up the middle and complement a speedier back.  They could also go D-Line to help improve the ability to get pressure on the QB and help stop the run.
