2009 NFL Mock Draft 10/22/08

Round 2-3-4-5

1. Detroit Lions: Malcolm Jenkins, CB, OSU

This may be a little high for Malcolm Jenkins in this 2009 NFL Mock Draft but I like his athletic ability and the player that Jenkins can become.  The Lions have struggled in the 2008 season because they cannot defend the pass. Aaron Rodgers threw for over 300 yards and 4 TD”s against the Lions last week.  Also the Lions could go OT as well to help boost their O-Line which hasn’t been good for a very long time. They have a good RB in Kevin Smith they just aren’t able to get him moving in the 2008 season thus far. Also I I think they could also boost their D-Line with this pick to put some pressure on the QB and help their secondary for the 2009 season.

2. St. Louis Rams: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

The St. Louis Rams are continuing to struggle because they are unable to protect their QB and get their elite RB moving on the ground.  In the 2009 NFL Mock Draft the Rams really need to look at the future and decide what they are going to do in the 2009 and 2010 season.  They may want to try and trade this pick in the 2009 NFL Draft because the more players for the St. Louis Rams the Better. In this 2009 NFL Mock Draft I have the St. Louis Rams taking Oher because he is a top OT that can start in his first season. Not only will he be able to learn under a great OT in Orlando Pace he will also be able to block for a great RB right away in the 2009 Season.

3. Oakland Raiders: Michael Crabtree, WR, TTU

The Raiders will continue to build their team through the 2009 NFL Draft here.  They actually may not pick this high in the 2009 NFL Draft but they are young so they very well may. I like them taking the great play maker Michael Crabtree here in my 2009 NFL Mock Draft. The reason I have him going here is because while I was watching the game Russell was throwing good balls and the WR’s couldn’t catch the ball…so they need a good WR.  Crabtree can catch everything and I think he will show that early in the 2009 NFL Season because he is a play maker as well as a red Zone Threat.

4. KC Chiefs: Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia

The KC Chiefs have struggled ever since Brodie Croyle (Thank you to everyone that told me that Edwards plays for the bills) has gotten injured.  They now are playing a QB named Thigpen who I have never heard of.  So I think they go with Stafford here who can both manage the game and stay poised in the pocket.  Stafford will come in with weapons Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe to throw it to.  Look for Stafford to come in and make a name for himself in the 2009 NFL Season.  I have Stafford as my top QB but I believe that this could change throughout the 2008 season. So look for whoever is the top QB at the time to be my 2009 NFL Mock Draft pick for the KC Chiefs.

5. Miami Dolphins: Michael Johnson, DE, GT

Bill Parcels let Jason Taylor go so they need to replace that hole for the 2009 NFL Season. They took Philip Merling in the 2008 NFL Draft but Johnson is a very good pass rusher and could be a great help for the D-Line as well as the DB’s.  I would also look for them to go RB here if their was an Elite RB available like Beanie Wells because they are getting old and battered in the RB area. However, in this 2009 NFL Mock Draft I like Michael Johnson to go to the Miami Dolphins because he is an elite talent.

6. San Fran 49ers: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida

At first I didn’t like Tim Tebow going this hi in the 2009 NFL Mock Draft but I changed my mind.  I like Tim Tebow because he is a winner and I think he can turn this team around in the 2009 season.  I didn’t think he would be a good passer but he can run and throw the ball so I think he could help this team because he is a dual threat.  I also like Tebow and Gore as a tandem because who are they going to cover between those two run and catch threats. So for this 2009 NFL Mock Draft I have Tebow going in the top 10 until further notice.

7. Cincinnati Bengals: George Selvie, DE/LB, USF

Cincinnati actually may end up picking higher then this in the 2009 NFL Draft if they keep playing like they have been. Well so far I have the Bengals taking George Selvie the versatile DE/LB combo who can make an immediate impact for the Bengals.  However, if their offense continues to struggle to run the ball in the 2008 season I think they may have to get a top tier OT like Eugene Monroe or Andre Smith from Bama.  So right now I have Selvie going to the Bengals in my 2009 NFL Mock Draft but in the future don’t be surprised if I have them taking one of the big guys up front for the 2009 season.

8. Atlanta Falcons: Eugene Monroe, OT, VA

The Falcons could go WR in this slot or DB to help replace Deangelo Hall.  However, I think they go to build their O-Line in order to protect Matt Ryan their QB Of the future as well as protect Michael Turner.  If they can solidify their Line and get someone in the 2nd or 3rd round that is a legit receiver they may actually have an offense again.  Look for them to try to make a lot of moves in the offseason before the 2009 season to help build their team.

9. Houston Texans: Taylor Mays, S, USC

The Texans have been improving over the last couple years…they are in one of the toughest divisions in football. The Texans D has been solid but if they get the top tier safety Taylor Mays they could be an elite defense in the 2009 season.  I could also see them building the offense by either taking one of the top rated RB’s in the 2009 NFL Draft or one of the Top WR’s in the 2009 NFL Draft to help support Schaub.

10. Washington Redskins: Andre Smith, OT, BAMA

The Washington Redskins actually looked pretty good this past week so I don’t know if they will pick this high in the actual 2009 NFL Draft. However, they have to play the Eagles, Giants and the Cowboys twice so I see a lot of losses building up for them in the future.  Also I think they need to protect Jason Campbell better and Andre Smith is the athletic OT that should be able to do that in the 2009 Season. Also he could help boost a pretty good run game in to a great run game anchored by Clinton Portis.  Look for the Redskins to come out of their shell in the next couple years with all of the young talent they have acquired in the past couple NFL Draft’s.
