Pat White: 2008 NFL Draft Prospect

This year Pat White has once again shown that he can be successful in the West Virginia offensive system.  White has thrown for over 1,000 yards and 9 touchdowns so far.  White has also rushed for 656 yards and 9 touchdowns to couple with his 9 passing touchdowns.  Though White has shown to be a very good QB at the College Football level I would not expect White to be a QB in the NFL.  The reason that White is so successful in College is because of Steve Slaton as well as his own ability to run the ball and confuse the defense.  So Slaton does not have the necessary capabilities of being a productive QB in the NFL because he is not a fluid enough passer and does not have the patience of an NFL QB.  White’s success as a QB is because he is part of the West Virginia system rather than a good college QB.  I would look for White to enter the draft either this year or next year as a WR because of his inability to play QB but freakish athletic ability.  I would suggest that he would be a good RB in the NFL but he is too thin and does not have a powerful enough running style.  White standing at 6-2 and 185 lb. could be a big time receiver or slash type player similar to what Reggie Bush does. I think White would do well in a system where he could both run the ball and be a screen and deep threat as a receiver.  White is an interesting player and because of his athleticism I would think he would get drafted early on the second day (3-5 round).
