2008 NFL Mock Draft Round 1: 21-31 04/26/08 FINAL MOCK DRAFT

21. Washington Redskins: Limas Sweed, WR, Texas

I have previously had the Redskins taking a DE in my 2008 NFL Draft. However, Harvey is going to go in the top 20 and Merling is injury prone they go after a WR. Limas Sweed is considered to be one of the top receivers in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Redskins will get a good receiver in 2008. So they will look to get a DE in the second round of the 2008 NFL Mock Draft.

22. Dallas Cowboys: Malcolm Kelly, WR, OU

The Cowboys are getting old and they need some more receivers. Malcolm Kelly has dropped on a lot of boards but if he falls to Dallas they will be able to play him minimally and learn. In the 2008 NFL Draft if they get Kelly here he can learn under TO and learn to use his body in the 2008 season and more.

23. Pittsburgh Steelers: Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt

I had Jeff Otah going here and Chris Williams going to the Panthers earlier. I have heard rumors that Chris Williams is not tough and will not necessarily be a good pro. So look for Williams to maybe fall to the Steelers and them to get good value for him here. In 2008 Williams could get some good time on the left and right side. Also look for the Steelers to maybe take a big receiver for Big Ben in the 2008 season.

24. Tennessee Titans: James Hardy, WR, Indiana

In 2007 the Titans disappointed me greatly.  I didn’t mind their first round pick but with the second round they should have gotten a receiver to complement Vince Young.  Young was criticized all last year because he isn’t a great passer.  Well if you give the best QB in the league the receivers Vince Young had they would all have trouble throwing to them. So in the 2008 NFL Draft I have the Titans taking a lower grade player.  James Hardy is leaving after his junior season in Indiana because he is a TD machine.  The Titans need a big, fast receiver for Vince to throw to.  James Hardy is about 6′6" and can do it all.  Look for him to help whoever drafts him in 2008 to be very happy.

25. Seattle Seahawks: Philip Merling, DE, Clemson

Philip Merling has some health problems but is one of the best D-Linemen in the 2008 NFL Draft. If the Seahawks want to move him in to DT which is one of their bigger needs he could gain some weight and be a great threat in the middle. I compare him to Adam Carriker out of Nebraska who was a big end who gained weight and moved inside to DT for the 2007 season. This is a great pick for them because Merling has the potential to play both DE and DT in the 2008 NFL Season.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars: Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn

The Jaguars need some defensive help.  They were very good in 2007 beating the Steelers in the playoffs because of Garrard’s great run.  I think that Del Rio made one of the best decisions a coach has made in a while by getting rid of Byron Leftwitch.  I will agree with any pick that Del Rio takes but I have them taking a versatile DE from Auburn.  Groves will be a good player in 2008 and hopefully get the Jaguars to the 2008 Super Bowl.

27. San Diego Chargers: Gosder Cherilus, OT, BC

The Chargers really want a guard with this pick to help fill their offensive line.  However, Branden Albert is gone and I don’t think Chilo Rachal is good enough to get into the first round.  If the Chargers pick up Cherilus he can work in at right tackle and move some players around. Some other choices here would be a Middle Linebacker or some secondary players to help fill in.

28. Dallas Cowboys: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas

Jerry Jones loves Arkansas so he will take a RB from Arkansas.  The Cowboys love running a two RB system and they can do this with Felix Jones. Jones split time in college with the top rated back in the 2008 NFL Draft Darren McFadden.  Look for Jones to once again split time in the 2008 season with Marion Barber. With these two first round picks in the 2008 NFL Draft the Cowboys may be a favorite to win the 2008 Super Bowl.

29. San Francisco 49ers: Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC

The 49ers have a good RB and pretty good offensive weapons. They could go for a receiver or a O-Linemen here. But I see their biggest need being the defense and getting pressure on the QB. Lawrence Jackson is a good solid defensive end that should play a good role in the 2008 season. Look for the 49ers to rebound and have a pretty good season if they can stay healthy in the 2008 NFL Season.

30. Green Bay Packers: Brandon Flowers, CB, VT

Flowers didn’t run the best 40 time but he makes up for this with skill. Flowers is a very skilled corner as well as a physical one. The Packer like physical strong CB’s that can bump at the line and Flowers is the man for this job. Look for him to have some impact in the 2008 NFL Season but impact a greater amount down the road.

31. New York Giants: Kenny Philips, S, Miami

The Giants could go one of many ways with this pick.  They have an old receiving core so they could help improve that and make it younger with Steve Smith already added last year.  They could also get a LB like Dan Connor or Jerod Mayo to strengthen the interior of the team.  Philips will help solidify their secondary and complement Aaron Ross the rookie from last year.

Forfeited Picks: New England Patriots

It is Illegal for teams to tape other teams signals. The Patriots figured this out the hard way.
