2008 NFL Mock Draft 03/17/08- Round 1

1. Miami Dolphins – Chris Long DE, Virginia

The Miami Dolphins need someone to build there team around in the 2008 NFL season.  The Miami Dolphins are taking the best all around player in the 2008 NFL Mock Draft Chris Long.  He is both fast and therefore able to get to the qb. Secondly he is one of the best run stopping defensive ends in the 2008 nfl draft as well.

2. St. Louis Rams – Jake Long OT, Michigan

The St. Louis Rams had trouble in 2007 because of there O Line.  The Steven Jackson and Marc Bulger both got injured in the 2007 season.  When looking into the 2008 season the Rams need stability on the offensive line, improvements on defense and some younger receivers. If the Rams fill these holes then they may be successful in 2008 and could even make the playoffs.

3. Atlanta Falcons – Matt Ryan QB, Boston College

The Falcons have done some good work in 2008 NFL Free Agency period. The Falcons picked up the top ranked player in the 2008 Free agency and they are starting to look pretty good all in all.  I think the Falcons will take Matt Ryan because he is the top rated 2008 NFL Draft QB and could even go to the Dolphins first overall.  This will be key for the Falcons in 2008.

4. Oakland Raiders – Vernon Gholston DE, Ohio State

The Raiders have a tough decision here…. Darren McFadden or Vernon Gholston. I have them taking Gholston because he is a workout warrior and is the best pass rushing player in the 2008 NFL Draft. Look for the Raiders to have a tough time with this pick because their are a lot of very good players still on the board.

5. Kansas City Chiefs – Ryan Clady OT, Michigan

The Biggest need for the Chiefs is OT but Jake Long was already taken. What I can see happening here is a trade. If McFadden falls like he did here in the 2008 NFL Draft the Cowboys make look to trade up for him. They could give the Chiefs there 2 first round 2008 NFL Draft picks and the Chiefs can pick up an OT later in the first round. However, I don’t see why the Cowboys would trade up because they have Marion Barber for the 2008 season. The 2008 NFL draft should be interesting because of trading and the great talent.

6. New York Jets – Darren McFadden RB, Arkansas

If some how McFadden falls this far I think the Jets have to select him in the 2008 NFL Draft. McFadden is a great RB and has great credentials for the NFL.  Look for the Jets to get him or boost their defense in the draft with someone like McFadden or Ellis.

7. New England Patriots – Leodis McKlevin CB, Troy State

The Patriots could go a couple ways with this pick in the 2008 nfl draft. They could go LB to get some youth in their 2008 LB crew. However, the Pats don’t draft QB’s so I have them going with the best CB as of now Mcklevin in the 2008 nfl draft. The Pats are going to be a top tier team again in the 2008 nfl season.

8. Baltimore Ravens – Keith Rivers OLB, USC

The Ravens will be lucky if Keith Rivers drops this far to them. He is the best OLB in the draft and a great pass rusher for the 2008 NFL Season. The Ravens could use someone opposite Terrell Suggs.  They could also get some youth in their CB’s for the 2008 season by drafting a younger corner.

9. Cincinnati Bengals – Glenn Dorsey DT, LSU

The Bengals would love if Dorsey fell to the Bengals in this 2008 NFL Draft. The Bengals are a good team and they could definitely use Dorsey right away in the 2008 season. He is considered by many to be a top 5 pick but drops because of Injury problems. Dorsey is one of the best players in the 2008 NFL Draft.  The Draft should be exciting for the Bengals if they can land either Dorsey or Ellis because they will start right away in 2008.

10. New Orleans Saints – Sedrick Ellis DT, USC

The Saints could go one of two ways in the 2008 nfl draft. Look for them to go with either a defensive linemen or a Corner Back. Sedrick Ellis is top 5 talent but fell to the 10 spot.  Look for the saints to jump on Ellis if he falls this far in the 2008 NFL Draft. Ellis is a great player with tops of talent that can play right away in 2008.

11. Buffalo Bills – Malcolm Kelly WR, Oklahoma

The Bills have a couple needs, either WR or DB for the first round in 2008. I have them taking the best receiver available with their 2008 NFL Draft pick.  The Bills need a redzone threat for the Trent Edwards to throw to as well as someone to stretch the field opposite Lee Evans.  Malcolm Kelly should get some immediate playing time in the 2008 NFL Season.

12. Denver Broncos– Rodgers-Cromartie CB, Ten. State

The Broncos secondary is very good but they are getting old and could use some athletic youth in the 2008 season. Cromartie is one of the top CB’s in the 2008 NFL Draft and may even be the top corner depending on who is rating them.  Look for the Broncos to snag the best player in the 2008 NFL Draft that fits their team needs.

13. Carolina Panthers – Chris Williams OT, Vanderbilt

The Panthers need a few things in this 2008 NFL off season.  The Panthers dropped their starting RB so I could see them going with Rashard Mendenhall or Jonathan Stewart with this pick.  Secondly, they need someone to protect their QB’s in the 2008 season because everyone of their QB’s got injured.  So I went with the later choice and they picked up Chris Williams the very athletic OT out of Vanderbilt.  Williams could step in right away and start in 2008 right away.

14. Chicago Bears – Jeff Otah OT, Pittsburgh

The Bears need a QB, RB, OT and other help. They resigned two QB’s in the offseason so I think they will wait until the second or third round to get a QB.  So the Bears opt to go with the massive right tackle out of Pitt, Otah.  Otah is the biggest of the tackles but he is also pretty slow to be a left tackle as well. But look for him to step in and at least get some playing time at right tackle the 2008 NFL Season.

15. Detroit Lions – Rashard Mendenhall RB, Illinois

The Lions just dropped, Kevin Jones, their injury ridden starting RB.  The Lions did resign Tatum Bell but Mendenhall is to good to pass up here.  He is of top 10 status but he falls all the way to the Lions who are in need of a good RB. Mendenhall is a big fast RB that can make things happen and have an immediate impact in the 2008 season. Another obvious choice here would be an Offensive lineman to start in 2008.  They also need some more help in the secondary even with the Free Agency addition of Leigh Bodden.

16. Arizona Cardinals – Jonathan Stewart RB, Oregon

The Cardinals need a younger RB because the Edge isn’t getting any younger. He played well last year but needs someone to share the burden with him in the 2008 NFL season. Jonathan Stewart is a great RB and he would be perfect to learn under the Edge in 2008 and would play a pivotal role.
