2008 NFL Draft Top 10 WRs – 10/30/07

1. Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma

Height: 6-4 Weight: 217

Malcolm Kelly is a big speedy receiver that is both a good deep threat as well as a good red zone target. Kelly so far this year has already caught 8 touchdowns as well as averaging 17.8 yards per reception. This average reception and the touchdowns that this guy has just show he can catch the deep ball and is a good target for the red zone. Look for this guy to be a top 10 pick because of his size and athleticism.

2. Adarius Bowman, Oklahoma State

Height: 6-4 Weight: 215

Last year Bowman exploded and had 1,181 yards and 12 touchdowns. Bowman is a similar player to Kelly because he is both a deep threat as well as a big target in the red zone. Bowman has 802 yards so far this year with an average of 16 yards per catch. He has also brought in 6 touchdown catches this year as well. Every once and a while because of his size and speed Bowman runs a couple of reverses and sweeps just to get this play maker the ball.

3. Early Doucet III, LSU

Height: 6-0 Weight: 205

Early Doucet the explosive receiver out of LSU has been injured for the last 5 weeks due to what is known to be a groin injury. He isn’t putting up the stats this year that he was predicted to. However, he returned this past week against Auburn and 7 passes for 93 yards. Doucet has only played 3 games this year and still has 246 yards with 2 touchdowns. Look for Doucet to be a big time play maker in the NFL. Last year he was overshadowed by Craig Davis and Dwayne Bowe who were both first round picks this year. Look for Doucet to follow in his past teammates footsteps and also be a top 20 first round pick.

4. Desean Jackson*, California

Height: 6-0 Weight: 166

Desean Jackson is a big play threat athlete.Jackson reminds me a lot of Tedd Ginn Jr. because of his breakout speed and his ability to change a game around in a flash because of his speed and agility. Tedd Ginn went in the top 10 last year to the Dolphins but look for Jackson to fall and not go this high because of the somewhat bust that Ginn has been this year. Also Jackson may not even be the best WR in California because his teammate Lavelle Hawkins is playing very well and has been outplaying Jackson recently.

5. Mario Manningham*, Michigan

Height: 6-0 Weight: 185

Manningham is also a smaller receiver in this draft like Desean Jackson. Manningham also has breakout speed and is capable of stretching the field long opening up the run and the shorter passes. Manningham has shown to be a pretty good target this year already catching more balls and having more yards then he did last year. Look for this guy to be a haymaker much like Jackson. He is not necessarily a red zone receiver but he will score touchdowns because of his breakout speed and ability to get behind defenders.

6. Limas Sweed, Texas

Height: 6-5 Weight: 218

Limas Sweed has a couple things going against him this year in the draft. First of all he is going to have to prove that his season ending surgery didn’t affect his ability to catch the ball. Also Sweed is going to have to perform in the 40 yd dash to prove he can both stretch the field and be a red zone threat. If Sweed does not run a good 40 like people think then he is going to be in the same field that Dwayne Jarrett was last year. Jarrett was an amazing receiver in college but he dropped to the second round because of a slow 40 time. Sweed has amazing hands and is a great possession receiver and a red zone threat so look for him to go late first round to early-mid second round.

7. James Hardy*, Indiana

Height: 6-7 Weight: 220

James Hardy is showing to be the real deal this year from a not well known Indiana team. Hardy recently played against Penn State and showed that he is worthy to be taken this year in the NFL Draft. Hardy was covered by Justin King who is potentially the best CB in the draft. Hardy caught 14 passes for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns on Justin King. Hardy has shown to not only be an amazing possession receiver but also the ultimate weapon in the red zone. At 6-7 he has an advantage over any CB in the league because of his size, hands, and ability to leap.

8. Keenan Burton, Kentucky

Height: 6-2 Weight: 195

Keenan Burton is a multi threat as both a receiver and a kick returner. He has been pretty good this year bringing in 44 receptions for 544 yards and 6 touchdowns. Look at this guy to be a second round pick because of his receiving ability as well as his kick returner.

9. Lavelle Hawkins, California

Height: 6-2 Weight: 181

Lavelle Hawkins has been on and off this year. Recently he has been struggling only having 8 receptions for 55 yards in his last 2 games with no touchdowns. However, he has shown that he can take over a game by his performance against Oregon State where he had 192 yards and 2 touchdowns. A lot of people think that Hawkins may be better than his teammate Desean Jackson. Hawkins is bordering a first day pick and he will be picked depending on the NFL teams and their needs.

10. Harry Douglas, Louisville

Height: 5-11 Weight: 170

As you can see from his height and weight Harry Douglas is a small receiver but he has the numbers to back his size. This year Douglas has only played in 7 games and has 879 yards. Along with the 879 yards he also has 6 touchdowns catching one in every game but 2 so far. Douglas is a very explosive player that is able to both run the ball as well as stretch the field. Douglas will have trouble because of his size but due to his speed and hands he will get drafted. Look for him to go early to mid second day rounds (3-5).
